PAKISTAN: RED MOSQUE STANDOFF GALVANISES MILITANT SENTIMENT
Islamabad, 3 July (AKI) - (by Syed Saleem Shahzad
— Amid conflicting reports on the death toll, the casualties and who started it all, one thing about the gunfight around Islamabad's central Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) on Tuesday was crystal clear.
Its ramifications will be felt in the Pakistani political and military establishment but also in the remote jihadi heartlands, far from the capital.
News of the clashes between the supporters of the radical pro-Taliban brothers running the mosque, and the security forces, spread with frightening rapidity.
The death toll from the shooting Tuesday was 13 dead, including police, students and a cameraman.
Armed students and clerics at the Lal Masjid have openly defied the city and state authorities for months in their campaign to impose Islamic Sharia law.
In Mingora, a town in a scenic moutainous area of Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, (NWFP) some 7,000 youths gathered under the guidance of a local cleric to declare their support for jihad in favour of Lal Masjid, militant sources in the area say.
The youngsters reportedly belong to Tehrik-i-Nifaz-i-Shariat Mohammadi (TNSM), a banned Islamist militant group, and were hurriedly called from the nearby districts of Malakand, Mengora, Swat.
The sources maintained that similar sentiments are rampant in the tribal areas of South Waziristan and North Waziristan with large groups of young armed men congregating in Wana and Miran Shah areas and vowing to travel to Islamabad and defend the Lal Masjid.
Most of the 5,000 female students at the Islamic boarding schools attached to the Lal Masjid come from North West Frontier Province, South Waziristan and North Waziristan.
In metropolitan Karachi, the scene of explosive poltical clashes last month in which more than forty people were killed, text messages of support for the radical Islamists are circulating on cellphones urging people to rise up against the government.
Small spontaneous demonstrations also took place across the country. Hundreds of workers belonging to Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam took to the street in south western Baluchistan’s capital Quetta and demanded an immediately halt to any police action against the mosque.
Thousands of armed man in Mansehra, belonging to TNSM, have threatened that if the operation is not stopped they will start occupying the national highways and block all traffic.

But whether in the McMansions of Florida bedroom communities or locked in the suffocating despair of Chicago’s Cabrini Green, everyone knows—everyone feels it, but no one is talking about "it."
That "it", that "something" is why depression is rampant, and why Americans are so sleep-deprived.
That "something" can’t be fixed with a new mattress or more Tylenol PM, and when long nights of fitful or no sleep turn into another workday, the American way is to rise and shine into frenetic workaholism and ten thousand other distractions so that no one has to think or talk about "it".
"It" is the sickening, gut-wrenching, capillary-constricting, heart-palpitating, suffocating, terrifying, paralyzing awareness in the deepest recesses of the body and soul that the entire house of cards for which Americans have worked, saved, sacrificed—for which they have sent their children off to war and off to college, which they have been willing to defend to their death and which has given them meaning when nothing else would—all of that, yes ALL of that is collapsing, dissolving, disintegrating, disappearing, slipping away.
Perhaps only subconsciously weary of war and tormented by finances as they are, some part of them knows that their children aren’t going to college, that they won’t be able to stop foreclosure on their home, that their increasing reliance on credit cards postpones bankruptcy a little longer but makes its consequences ever-more brutal, and that when it’s all said and done, the retirement package and the 401K they were counting on for the worst-case scenario, like the rollicking good times of the pre-dot-com nineties, has simply evaporated into history.

"A caveat about numbers
In the bloody chaos that is Iraq, as tens of thousands die or are wounded, as millions uproot themselves or are uprooted, and as the influence of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's national government remains largely confined to the 10-square-kilometer fortified Green Zone in the Iraqi capital, numbers, even as they pour out of that hemorrhaging land, are eternally up for grabs.
There is no way most of them can be accurate.
They are, at best, a set of approximate notations in a nightmare that is beyond measurement."

BIS warns of Great Depression dangers from credit spree
By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard
(Filed: 25/06/2007)
The Bank for International Settlements, the world's most prestigious financial body, has warned that years of loose monetary policy has fuelled a dangerous credit bubble, leaving the global economy more vulnerable to another 1930s-style slump than generally understood.
The BIS said China may have repeated the disastrous errors made by Japan in the 1980s
The BIS said China may have repeated the disastrous errors made by Japan in the 1980s
"Virtually nobody foresaw the Great Depression of the 1930s, or the crises which affected Japan and southeast Asia in the early and late 1990s.   In fact, each downturn was preceded by a period of non-inflationary growth exuberant enough to lead many commentators to suggest that a 'new era' had arrived", said the bank.
The BIS, the ultimate bank of central bankers, pointed to a confluence a worrying signs, citing mass issuance of new-fangled credit instruments, soaring levels of household debt, extreme appetite for risk shown by investors, and entrenched imbalances in the world currency system.
"Behind each set of concerns lurks the common factor of highly accommodating financial conditions.   Tail events affecting the global economy might at some point have much higher costs than is commonly supposed," it said.
The BIS said China may have repeated the disastrous errors made by Japan in the 1980s when Tokyo let rip with excess liquidity.
"The Chinese economy seems to be demonstrating very similar, disquieting symptoms," it said, citing ballooning credit, an asset boom, and "massive investments" in heavy industry.
Some 40pc of China's state-owned enterprises are loss-making, exposing the banking system to likely stress in a downturn.
It said China's growth was "unstable, unbalanced, uncoordinated and unsustainable", borrowing a line from Chinese premier Wen Jiabao
In a thinly-veiled rebuke to the US Federal Reserve, the BIS said central banks were starting to doubt the wisdom of letting asset bubbles build up on the assumption that they could safely be "cleaned up" afterwards — which was more or less the strategy pursued by former Fed chief Alan Greenspan after the dotcom bust.
It said this approach had failed in the US in 1930 and in Japan in 1991 because excess debt and investment built up in the boom years had suffocating effects.
While cutting interest rates in such a crisis may help, it has the effect of transferring wealth from creditors to debtors and "sowing the seeds for more serious problems further ahead."
The bank said it was far from clear whether the US would be able to shrug off the consequences of its latest imbalances, citing a current account deficit running at 6.5pc of GDP, a rise in US external liabilities by over $4 trillion from 2001 to 2005, and an unpredented drop in the savings rate.   "The dollar clearly remains vulnerable to a sudden loss of private sector confidence," it said.
The BIS said last year's record issuance of $470bn in collateralized debt obligations (CDO), and a further $524bn in "synthetic" CDOs had effectively opened the lending taps even further.   "Mortgage credit has become more available and on easier terms to borrowers almost everywhere.   Only in recent months has the downside become more apparent," it said.
CDO's are bond-like packages of mortgages and other forms of debt.   The BIS said banks transfer the exposure to buyers of the securities, giving them little incentive to assess risk or carry out due diligence.
Mergers and takeovers reached $4.1 trillion worldwide last year.
Leveraged buy-outs touched $753bn, with an average debt/cash flow ratio hitting a record 5:4.
"Sooner or later the credit cycle will turn and default rates will begin to rise," said the bank.
"The levels of leverage employed in private equity transactions have raised questions about their longer-term sustainability.   The strategy depends on the availability of cheap funding," it said.
That may not last much longer.

'I felt hunted and alone' — lawyer
Old Bailey in London

Solicitors, barristers, lawyers working for the elite

I chose to become a solicitor since I regarded it as a vocation — in which I could make a real difference to clients' lives.

Most importantly, it was about justice, ethics and integrity.

However, I have come to realise that it is nothing like that — it is all about ego, money and soulless, ruthless commercialism and exploitation, invariably at the personal expense of those working for the true 'Fat Cats'.
The work-life balance of the UK's lawyers is to come under scrutiny as part of a Law Society review to see why record numbers appear to be leaving the profession.
Some say the popular belief that the life of a City lawyer is all about big bonuses, expensive holidays and flowing champagne is misguided and, in fact, the career is more likely to end in emotional or physical breakdown.
One City lawyer, Zoe (not her real name), explains how her job brought on anorexia and depression, and ultimately forced her to leave a top law firm.
In the firm in which I worked, the day typically began at 6am.
Technically, our working hours were 9.30am to 5.30pm with an hour for lunch, but since we were "invited" to sign a written waiver of our rights under the EU Working Time directive, that was entirely academic.
The critical factor was clocking up the requisite number of chargeable hours per day — sometimes 8 or 9 — or such additional time as the work required, including weekends or taking instructions from clients at home late at night.
This was due to global time differences or simply since clients expect that kind of service for the fees and you do so in the firm's name and to protect its outstanding reputation.
Non-chargeable work, including training or some of the pro bono work some major firms do, for example, would be expected to be on top.
Constant scrutiny
Lunch was usually eaten on the hoof, if at all, and I was always anxious that the amount of time I was away from my desk would be watched.
For two years, I did no cooking at home during the week whatsoever, snatching breakfast from the staff canteen on arrival, frequently having lunch at my desk and if the work dictated it, breaking for supper in the canteen too, before returning to my desk.
After 10pm, you could take a taxi home which would be charged to either the office or, more frequently, the client.
But I would often not return home until around 11pm, have a bath and slump into bed, just to repeat the same routine the next day.
In an environment where it is usually "every man for himself and devil take the hindmost", you feel under constant scrutiny to impress and watch your back the whole time.
Over the edge
In my experience, the firm will always close ranks against the individual, no matter what the cost to him or her, creating almost a conspiracy of silence while offering little or no support to anyone who needs help, be it personally or professionally.
Sometimes, the expectations can literally drive you over the edge.

Stressed, overworked, with no support... the life of a lawyer?
I have seen more people break down in top firms than in any other city professions, often with tragic consequences.
And once promotion becomes an issue, it is cut-throat.
So far as culture goes, it was still pretty much a case of lunch being for wimps and people would leave their jackets on the back of chairs and PCs logged on well after 7pm, lest anyone thought they were shirking.
If I wanted to get ahead within the firm, then a social life was the sacrifice I had to make.
Work was my life.   My only social life was being entertained by clients, which at the time felt like a great honour, but was really quite a strain.
One client even tried to kiss me as I went to a memorial service for another client.   It was repulsive.
Decision to leave
I think that the loss of work-life balance and the premium it puts on your achievements at work contributes hugely to the stress of working in such firms.
As one climbs the greasy pole, it is desperately sad to see the effects this has on individuals and their families as we struggle to prove ourselves — divorces, family breakdowns, addiction and other mental health problems, even suicides.
Physically, I became anorexic and quite neurotic.
I felt utterly beleaguered and lost faith in the integrity of the firm and potentially in the profession altogether — save that a partner in another department involved in my most major case wrote me a very kind, supportive letter after I had left.
I became disillusioned, isolated and depressed.
Eventually, I could not even travel on public transport into work and took minicabs, at great cost.
I felt hunted and went to ground completely for a month before eventually deciding to leave and joining my next firm.
Ego and money

Attack On Mothers
by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Poisonous public attacks
The poisonous public attacks on Katie Wright this week–for revealing that her autistic son Christian (grandson of NBC Chair Bob Wright), has recovered significant function after chelation treatments to remove mercury — surprised many observers unfamiliar with the acrimonious debate over the mercury-based vaccine preservative Thimerosal.
Thimerosal
But the patronizing attacks on the mothers of autistic children who have organized to oppose this brain-killing poison is one of the most persistent tactics employed by those defending Thimerosal against the barrage of scientific evidence linking it to the epidemic of pediatric neurological disorders, including autism.
Mothers routinely dismissed as irrational, hysterical
Mothers of autistics are routinely dismissed as irrational, hysterical, or as a newspaper editor told me last week, “desperate to find the reason for their children’s illnesses,” and therefore, overwrought and disconnected.
But my experience with these women is inconsistent with those patronizing assessments.
Over the past two years I’ve met or communicated with several hundred of these women.
Instead of a desperate mob of irrational hysterics, I’ve found the anti-Thimerosal activists for the most part to be calm, grounded and extraordinarily patient.
As a group, they are highly educated.
Many of them are doctors, nurses, schoolteachers, pharmacists, psychologists, Ph.D.s and other professionals.
Thimerosal-laced vaccines destroyed their children’s brains
Many of them approached the link skeptically and only through dispassionate and diligent investigation became convinced that Thimerosal-laced vaccines destroyed their children’s brains.
As a group they have sat through hundreds of meetings and scientific conferences, and studied research papers and medical tests.
They have networked with each other at meetings and on the Web.
Along the way they have stoically endured the abuse routinely heaped upon them by the vaccine industry and public health authorities and casual dismissal by reporters and editors too lazy to do their jobs.
Then his pediatrician gave him Thimerosal-laced vaccines
Many of these women tell a story virtually identical to Katie Wright’s — I have now heard or seen this grim chronology recounted hundreds of times in conversations, e-mails and letters from mothers:
At 2-1/2 years old, Christian Wright exceeded all milestones.
He had 1,000 words, was toilet-trained, and enjoyed excellent social relations with his brother and others.
Then his pediatrician gave him Thimerosal-laced vaccines.
He cried all night, developed a fever and, over the coming months, this smart, healthy child disappeared.
Christian lost the ability to speak, to interact with family members, to make eye contact or to point a finger.
He is no longer toilet trained.
He engaged in stereotypical behavior–screaming, head-banging, biting and uncontrolled aggression, and suffers continuously the agonizing pain of gastrointestinal inflammation.
Undeniable connection between Mercury, Thimerosal and wide range of neurological illnesses
After hearing that story a couple dozen times, a rational person might do some more investigation.
That’s when one encounters the overwhelming science — hundreds of research studies from dozens of countries showing the undeniable connection between mercury and Thimerosal and a wide range of neurological illnesses.
In response to the overwhelming science, CDC and the pharmaceutical industry ginned up four European studies designed to disguise the link between autism and Thimerosal.
Awful decision to allow brain-killing mercury to be injected into young children
Their purpose was to provide plausible deniability for the consequences of their awful decision to allow brain-killing mercury to be injected into our youngest children.
Those deliberately deceptive and fatally flawed studies were authored by vaccine industry consultants and paid for by Thimerosal producers and published largely in compromised journals that neglected to disclose the myriad conflicts of their authors in violation of standard peer-review ethics.
As I’ve shown elsewhere [see
www.robertfkennedyjr.com ], these studies were borderline fraud, using statistical deceptions to mislead the public and regulatory community.
Amish or home-schooled kids who appear to enjoy dramatically reduced levels of autism and other neurological disorders
The CDC and IOM base their defense of Thimerosal on these flimsy studies, their own formidable reputations, and their faith that journalists won’t take the time to critically read the science.
The bureaucrats are simultaneously using their influence, energies and clout to derail, defund and suppress any scientific study that may verify the link between Thimerosal and brain disorders.
(These would include epidemiological studies comparing the records of vaccinated children with those of unvaccinated populations like the Amish or home-schooled kids who appear to enjoy dramatically reduced levels of autism and other neurological disorders.)
The federal agencies have refused to release the massive public health information accumulated in their Vaccine Safety Database (VSD) apparently to keep independent scientists from reviewing evidence that could prove the link.
They are also muzzling or blackballing scientists who want to conduct such studies.
Same voices that once blamed autism on “bad parenting”
Ironically, it is the same voices that once blamed autism on “bad parenting,” and “uninvolved” moms that are now faulting these mothers for being too involved.
Due to this campaign of obfuscation and public deception, Thimerosal-based vaccines continue to sicken millions of children around the world and potential treatments — like the chelation that benefited Christian Wright — are kept out of the hands of the mainstream doctors now treating autistic kids with less effective tools.
Like thousands of other mothers of autistic children, Katie Wright knows what sickened her child.
Her efforts to spare other families this catastrophe, deployed with a cool head and calm demeanor, are truly heroic.
Maybe it’s time we all started listening
Maybe it’s time we all started listening.
Maybe it’s time to start respecting and honoring the maternal instincts and hard work of Katie and her fellow mothers by aggressively funding the studies that might verify or dispute them.

My sister is a nurse. Her son is one of those that Robert Kennedy Jr talks about, almost an identical story to Katie Wright’s. The voices of industry and compromised science drown out the voices of mothers.
When will we stop declaring that passionate, involved women are hysterical and can not make rational decisions about their children?
When will we listen to our neighbors, and weigh that as more important than the squeals of those who gain from the immeasurable pain these families endure?
When will we use common sense and stop poisoning our children?
Future.me June 20th, 2007 12:23 pm
Every story is almost identical.   And everyone equally as painful.   And the problem is, no one wants to stop the giant companies of America who continue to rape its own people.
Capitalism has destroyed this country and know one knows it or cares.   Get rich at any cost should be the slogan for us.   It’s horrible that our helpless children now suffer from the “American Corporate Machine” as well.

My sister has gone to tremendous effort to rid her family’s diet of chemicals - preservatives, food dyes, etc.
Not easy to do with 9 yr old twins who are not always within her sight.
Her son becomes completely out of control after eating M&Ms (given to him at a school party) — I asked her — is it the sugar?
She said no — the chemical soaked candy coating is what does it!
Imagine our schools and homes where children (and their parents) are not saturated with preservatives and food colorings and who knows what else.
THANK YOU ROBERT KENNEDY for this meaningful article.
As a nation — and a world — we’ve gone mad, allowing marketing and corporations to poison our minds and our bodies.

It’s not just government and the pharmaceutical industry that’s failing our kids on this issue, it’s also doctors, who for the the most part, adamantly defend vaccinations.
(I think partly to avoid the horror of having mistakenly harmed children, and partly to cling to the supposed heroic power of vaccines.)

The dangers of mercury poisoning have been known for years — how could this substance ever be considered safe in children’s medicine?
Aren’t vaccines usually drawn from the poison they intend to prevent, in a low dosage or normally non-damaging dose?
The idea being flu vaccine, eg, gives you a light dose of the flu which your system can fight to prevent you from getting an external dose which will overwhelm your unprepared system.
Isn’t it a known fact that some percentage of people taking these vaccines will suffer more than the average vaccinee, possibly even die?
Wasn’t this the problem with vaccinating everyone against smallpox when that scare came up a few years ago?
Much of the science fiction I read when I was younger portrayed future universes run by corporations.
No nations or even planets, just corporations racing each other through the galaxies to find the next big profit maker.
Often the profiteering universe was just the background for the action story, but corporate rule was accepted as the norm.
Why were all these writers able to see what was on the horizon while most of us slept?
Too many in America mistakenly believe that Democracy = Capitalism.
Nothing, as the past 30 years has proven, could be further from the truth.
RuthK June 20th, 2007 2:26 pm
It isn’t just the mercury in vaccines.
The EPA says that 1 in 6 women of child-bearing age have excessive mercury in their bodies.
This can be passed on to children.
Perhaps the combination of vaccines and what the child already has causes an overload.
It’s not just the mercury.
Most chemicals in use in this country have never been tested.
The idea is that they are innocent until definitely proven harmful.
Also, the combination of chemicals is worse than single chemicals.

Their participation is based in a LIE.   We need only remove the chains from our wrists.

Ed and Elaine Brown Hold National Press Conference
New Hampshire Couple Vows to Fight Feds to the Death
Randy Weaver: "I'd rather die on my feet right here than die on my knees under this de facto government"
Excerpts RUSSELL GOLDMAN
ABC June 18, 2007
Calling the federal agents surrounding his fortified compound "guns for hire," a New Hampshire man convicted of tax evasion vowed today that he and his wife would fight U.S. marshals to the death if they tried to capture them.
"Do not under any circumstances make any attempt on this land. We will not accept any tomfoolery by any criminal element, be it federal, state or local," said Ed Brown in a press conference from the stoop of his concrete-clad home in Plainfield, N.H. "We either walk out of here free or we die."
Brown and his wife, Elaine, were sentenced in absentia in April to serve 63 months in prison for failing to pay more than $1 million in income tax.
The couple, however, insists that there is no law that requires citizens to pay income tax.
"There is no law. We looked and looked," Brown told the press.
Brown and his supporters, including Randy Weaver, leader of the 1992 standoff with ATF agents at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, told the press that the government has unlawfully tricked people into believing they have to pay income tax, knowing full well that such a law would be unconstitutional.
"We will defend it to the death. This is 1776 all over again. You cannot tax someone's labor because that is slavery," Brown said.
Carrying a pistol in his waistband, Brown also insisted that he could not receive a fair trial in a federal court because "the court system falls under freemasonry."
"There [are] no longer any lawful courts. The Freemasons have taken over our nation. … [Freemasons want] to take over our nation and all nations on the planet," Brown said.
Weaver, whose son was killed by federal agents and who later received a $100,000 settlement from the government, said he was there to support the Browns.
"I'd rather die on my feet right here than die on my knees under this de facto government," he said. "Bring it on."
Despite months of surveillance and reports of agents hiding in the woods of the couple's 110-acre compound, U.S. marshals said this morning that the Brown's Plainfield, N.H., home was not surrounded by their officers.
U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier made an effort to starkly contrast the actions of the Marshals with those of the ATF agents who besieged Ruby Ridge in 1992. In addition to Weaver's son, one federal agent was killed in that incident.
"There is no standoff and the house is not surrounded." Monier told ABC News.com. "We have no intention of assaulting the house or engaging in a violent confrontation."
Monier said he believed Weaver would attend the press conference the Browns are hosting this afternoon. He said Weaver and others -- some of whom are believed to have brought the couple weapons -- have been freely allowed to enter Brown's property.
"There is no reason to block Weaver. People are free to exercise their First Amendment rights," Monier said. "We are not setting up roadblocks or surrounding the house."
In April, Ed and Elaine Brown were sentenced in absentia to 63 months in prison for failing to pay more than $1 million in taxes.
Since failing to appear in court the couple has remained within the concrete-fortified walls of their rural New Hampshire home.
Monier said the Marshals have been communicating with the couple in an effort to get them to turn themselves over the federal authorities without having to resort to the use of force.
"We know they have weapons and we do not want to see this escalate," he said.
Last week agents cut off the home's telephone, Internet and power access.
Monier said the couple most likely had generators -- possibly solar or wind powered -- but that eventually the Browns would become uncomfortable enough in their isolation that they would be forced to surrender.
"They probably have generators but those will soon need fuel and need people to fix them. We want to continue to encourage them, and make it uncomfortable enough for them that they'll give up."
Brown said he and his wife had enough supplies to wait out the government no matter how long it lasted. He said the couple did not use air conditioning and could chop down trees from firewood.
Last week, Danny Riley a friend of the Browns was arrested near their home by federal agents while walking the couple's dog.
The Marshals claim they were engaged in routine surveillance of the property, but the Browns believe Riley thwarted a potential raid.

The Browns situation has today been covered in the national press by CBS and AP, who have again described the Brown home as a "fortified concrete compound".
Does the Brown home
look like a fortified compound to you?
They also describe the Browns as "holed up" despite the fact that their home has no security gates or fences of any kind and is completely open to anyone who wishes to just walk in at any time.
U.S. Marshal Steve Monier acknowledged Wednesday that waiting out the Browns could take months, but he said time was on authorities' side.
He said he hoped prison would seem like an agreeable option for the Browns after a summer without air conditioning and possibly a winter without heat, the report states.
"We have seized their phone and Internet service, and two days ago, we cut their power," Monier said.
"It's a continuing effort to move them along to understand they need to do the right thing, and this is to surrender to us."
Monier has said there are no federal agents in Plainfield or surveillance teams in camouflage watching the fortified home at 401 Center of Town Road, despite it being proved that agents were lurking in the trees when they were discovered by dog walker Danny Riley who states that he was shot at and tasered and now describes himself as a "nervous wreck".
Riley says that he is still being threatened for revealing that the FBI are involved in the case.

Times corrects a minor error, ignores the big one
A report by Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, June 6, 2007
Reviewing the London-based anti-Iraq War play Fallujah, New York Times reporter Jane Perlez wrote (5/29/07),
"The denunciations of the United States are severe, particularly in the scenes that deal with the use of napalm in Fallujah, an allegation made by left-wing critics of the war but never substantiated."
She followed that complaint by reporting that the play's writer and director, Jonathan Holmes, "makes no pretense of objectivity," paraphrasing him as saying that he "strove for authority more than authenticity."
Unfortunately for the Times, which does make a pretense of objectivity, the U.S. government did use the modern equivalent of napalm in Iraq.   In a 2003 interview in the
San Diego Union-Tribune (8/5/03), Marine Col. James Alles described the use of Mark 77 firebombs on targets in Iraq, saying, "We napalmed both those approaches."
While the Pentagon makes a distinction between the Mark 77 and napalm — the chemical formulation is slightly different, being based on kerosene rather than gasoline — it acknowledged to the Union-Tribune that the new weapon is routinely referred to as napalm because "its effect upon the target is remarkably similar."
"You can call it something other than napalm, but it's napalm," military analyst John Pike told the paper.
In a column that appeared before his play premiered (
London Guardian, 4/4/07), Fallujah playwright and director Jonathan Holmes referred to it as a "napalm derivative."
But the major controversy over the use of incendiary weapons in Fallujah involved not napalm but white phosphorus.
As with napalm, U.S. officials initially denied that white phosphorus had been used as a weapon there.
In London, U.S. Ambassador Robert Tuttle told the Independent (11/15/05) that "U.S. forces do not use napalm or white phosphorus as weapons," only "as obscurants or smoke screens and for target marking."
After it was discovered that the military journal Field Artillery (3-4/05) had quoted veterans of the Fallujah campaign boasting that white phosphorus was such "an effective and versatile munition" that they "saved our WP for lethal missions," however, the U.S. government was forced to backtrack.
"Yes, it was used as an incendiary weapon against enemy combatants," Col. Barry Venable told the BBC (11/15/05).
As Seth Ackerman documented (
Extra!, 3-4/06), the New York Times had accepted the initial denials of the use of white phosphorus as a weapon.
An article about U.S. intelligence monitoring the foreign press (11/13/05) cited such claims as examples of the flimsy anti-American charges in the overseas media, noting that "the mainstream American news media" had "largely ignored the claim," since its "reporters had witnessed the fighting [in Fallujah] and apparently seen no evidence” of white phosphorus weaponry.
After the Pentagon admitted using white phosphorus, however, the Times ran a strong editorial (
11/29/05) calling for a ban on its use.   "All of us, including Americans, are safer in a world in which certain forms of conduct are regarded as too inhumane even for war.   That is why...the United States should stop using white phosphorus."
Independent correspondent Dahr Jamail, whose reporting from Fallujah inspired one of the play's characters, wrote to the New York Times to take issue with Perlez's dismissal of the play's references to napalm.   Jamail pointed out that the use of white phosphorus in Fallujah was an "'allegation'...confirmed by the Pentagon itself nearly one year after it was initially reported by myself, as well as other outlets in the Middle East."
Jamail also noted out that Perlez had incorrectly described him as Canadian, when he is actually a U.S. citizen.   The Times ran a correction (6/7/07) on the nationality mistake, but declined to correct the more serious error of dismissing the U.S.'s incendiary weapons attacks as an "allegation" that was "never substantiated."
If Perlez meant to say that the U.S. military had only confirmed the use of a napalm-like weapon elsewhere in Iraq, not in Fallujah, while the only incendiary weapon admitted to have been used in Fallujah was white phosphorus, then that's a very slender technicality with which to call into question the "objectivity" and "authenticity" of a playwright.
It was good of the Times, in its November 2005 editorial, to condemn the use of inhumane weapons that burn their victims alive.   But it's too bad that its reporter didn't recall that editorial when presenting the use of similar weaponry as an unsubstantiated left-wing charge.
And it's especially unfortunate that, even when this lapse was pointed out to the paper, it couldn't bring itself to correct the record, choosing to be fastidious only when it comes to secondary details like nationality.

Indigenous Australians life expectancy 17 years lower than non-Indigenous Australia
Issue 131 - 14 Jun 2007
Most of Australia has heard of the shocking statistic that Indigenous Australians have a life expectancy 17 years lower than that of non-Indigenous Australia.
With the publishing of a recent report on Indigenous disadvantage, the state of Indigenous health, education, incarceration and employment have now been placed squarely on the protest agenda.
But how many people know that the accepted mortality rate of sheep is roughly equivalent to the annual mortality rate of Indigenous Australians?
Few people look to the mortality rate of Indigenous people as an indicator of disadvantage.
Maybe it's because the outcomes are so shocking that it could result in a considerable amount of embarrassment for the decade old Howard government.
Or maybe Australians just don't want to face the fact that an entire societal group has a mortality rate almost 1.7 percent higher than that of the general population.
This Big Read feature looks at the less quoted statistics - the mortality rate of Indigenous people as well as the annual avoidable mortality rate.
Click below for CHRIS GRAHAM and AMY MCQUIRE report at how the mortality rates of Indigenous people compare to Australian sheep, while our guest contributor, DR GIDEON POLYA takes a glance at mortality rates around the country and what contributes to the startling figures.
Issue 131
1.     It is widely known that before the 1967 referendum, Indigenous Australians were under the Flora and Fauna act
2.     Australian politicians have had to face the task of being seen to be doing something to help lower Indigenous disadvantage while not actually providing the substantial funding required to remedy the situation

In a dispatch posted at 9:20pm Baghdad time Monday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that puppet "Iraqi Interior Ministry Shock Troops" seized the Sunni ar-Risalah Mosque in the al-Mu 'tasim neighborhood of Samarra’, 120km north of Baghdad on Monday.
The puppet "Shock troops" — most of whom are currently members of Shi'i sectarian militias — also posted snipers in the minaret of the mosque, from which they proceeded to fire their medium weapons indiscriminately at the residents of nearby neighborhoods.
The AMSI reported that a massive exodus of the Sunni population from the largely Sunni western parts of the city of Samarra’ was continuing.
The city market had become nearly vacant since shopkeepers were unable to open their stores after US-backed puppet regime Shi'i sectarian forces took up positions in the market and threatened to kill any "suspicious person" crossing their path.
Medical doctors were also unable to get to the clinics in the al-Qatul neighborhood of western Samarra’ for the sixth day in a row.

Fixed in some nightmare that is all day.
Truly when I woke this morning I said I didn't want to,
but I told my protectors that I would continue
as long as I thought I was doing some good,
that the effort was worthy.
I don't know if I am doing some good,
that the effort is worthy,
or if even,
if even that we are doing some good,
but I think we, it, is,
I think we, are.
Some sanity in the back of my mind,
Some sanity tells me,
Some sanity tells me that any action brings forth a response.
That applies to our actions also!
As we grow —

Painting: Iraq Artist, Thameer Dawood.
—/— A Red Line —/—
Never had I fathomed, not even in my remotest imagination, that a day will come when God's houses will be attacked and destroyed.   The way they are today, in Iraq... Never.
This was and remains the most unthinkable, unacceptable act to me and to countless others...
This Red Line is now crossed... Crossed, transgressed, trespassed into blasphemy...
In fact, this Red Line was first crossed when the American brave boys started blowing up minarets... The first in Fallujah.
The Red Line was crossed when they desecrated the sacred places, ransacking them, setting them on fire, tearing, spitting and urinating on the Holy Book, painting crucifixes on the walls, stealing Mosques treasuries....And above all, killing people in them.
Worshipers in prayers... Prostrated, curved, curbed upon themselves, bent, rounded up, wrapped upon themselves like in a cocoon, like an infant in an embryo... In instants of total surrender... Defenseless, vulnerable, fragile... at the Mercy... and killed...
Yes, that day, the Red Line was crossed...
The first act, the one who had cast the first stone, transgressed all red lines.
And since that day, we are witnessing more of the same, spreading like a wild satanic fire, embracing all God's houses, Muslim, Christian... temples, any sanctified corner... Anything remotely sacred.
The rape of the Sacred...The rape of The Sacred, touching the most intimate connection, the closest belief, the "One closer than your jugular vein" of a people... whatever their creed.
I am not even sure you realize what a serious, grave act this is...but then maybe you do. But, I guess your boys are absolved because they are, yet another breed of a chosen people. A bit like your president and your administration, above God — maybe!
And like God, they have their "angels", executing their orders... the new Pharisees of the 21st century.
The "clash of civilizations" you said... so you said... and "Be" and it was... and "Be" and it became... so it became — in Iraq.
Destroy the Temple within and destroy the Temple without...
Destroy the body, destroy the soul.   Destroy the "sacred and the profane"...
Never, I would have never thought this to be possible. Iraq has never known anything like that and that despite Her being bloodily invaded before by barbarians...
But never that way, never like this... Never.
I am even too sad to write... What is there to say?
I find myself strangulated by grief, silenced beyond words, sliding into consternation and disbelief...
I find myself torn inside as if a thousand daggers have transpierced me...
I wonder what God feels... I want to tell Him, Her, It...
Dear One, I am so sorry.   They have not only destroyed our homes, but they have destroyed Yours as well...
Where are we to go now Dear One?   Which refuge?   Which direction?   Where do we turn?   What are we to face?
The roofs have fallen and the skies are uncovered...
And we are like fugitives, running... Looking behind us, in front of us, above us with a sky wide open over our heads and an earth ready to swallow us any moment...
Is there anywhere at all where a Red Line has not been crossed?
We run and run and there are no lines we have not crossed. No borders, no frontiers...
We run and run and they follow us everywhere... Right into our temple within, our temple without, into our beds, into our sleep, into our dreams... into our prayers...
Not a minaret, not a dome, not a church door... Nothing has been left untouched...
We stand, raise our hands to the sky and we receive fire bombs falling into our arms, against our chests, crushing us...
We bow down and repeat the sacred name and arrows pierce our backs in a ritual ablution of blood...
We prostrate down and touch the earth with our foreheads and mines explode in our faces...
Is there anywhere Dear One, that is no Red Line — Anywhere at all?

Ed and Elaine Brown To Hold National Press Conference
Randy Weaver hoping to join protestors on Monday
Steve Watson/Prison Planet.com
Thursday, June 14, 2007
Resisters Ed and Elaine Brown have exclusively revealed today that they are to hold a press conference at their home in Plainfield New Hampshire this coming Monday.
Joining them in support and as a freelance reporter documenting the event for Infowars and the GCN radio network will be Ruby Ridge standoff survivor Randy Weaver.
Randy Weaver was shot himself and lost his wife and young son in 1992 when the federal government brutally killed them when they refused to leave their property.
He is showing incredible bravery and patriotism by putting himself back into a very similar situation.
Weaver has said that he wishes to diffuse the situation and prevent any bloodshed.
A press conference will be held with Weaver and the Browns this Monday at 2pm EDT, national and local press have been welcomed by the Browns.
The Browns situation has today been covered in the national press by

Vatican urges end to Amnesty aid
Ultrasound of growing fetus.

The Vatican described abortion as 'murder'

To state my position on abortion, as opposed to Cardinal Renato Martino:

The human carcass is just that, inside a woman's womb or outside.

That which allocates Spirit to the material world — the Higher Selfs *

Spirit enters and Spirit removes itself from the material.

When a woman aborts that which grows inside herself, she prevents that new growth of herself receiving a developing spirit.

Nothing more.

*Higher Self, multiple but beyond space — therefore indivisible

Kewe — TheWE.biz
The Vatican has urged all Catholics to stop donating money to Amnesty International, accusing the human rights group of promoting abortion.
The Vatican also said it was suspending all financial aid to Amnesty over what it said was the group's recent change of policy on the issue.
Amnesty said it was not promoting abortion as a universal right.
But the group said that women had a right to choose, particularly in cases of rape or incest.
"No more financing of Amnesty International after the organisation's pro-abortion about-turn," said a statement from the Roman Catholic Church's Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.
'Misrepresented account'
The council's president, Cardinal Renato Martino, described abortion as "murder".
"And to justify it selectively, in the event of rape, that is to define an innocent child in the belly of its mother as an enemy, as 'something one can destroy'," the cardinal said.
Amnesty says it does not take any position on whether abortion is right or wrong.
But it defended its new position in support of abortion for women when their health is in danger or human rights are violated, especially in cases of rape or incest.
"We are saying broadly that to criminalise women's management of their sexual reproductive right is the wrong answer," Amnesty's deputy Secretary General Kate Gilmore told Reuters news agency.
"The Catholic Church, through a misrepresented account of our position on selective aspects of abortion, is placing in peril work on human rights," Ms Gilmore said.
Some 45 million unintended pregnancies are terminated around the world every year, the World Health Organisation says.
Nearly 70,000 women die annually from unsafe abortions, it says.
To state another position on abortion, as opposed to Cardinal Renato Martino:
The human carcass is just that, inside a woman's womb or outside.
That which allocates Spirit to the material world — the Higher Selfs *
Spirit enters and Spirit removes itself from the material, in the situation of birth, hovering at times, and sometimes entering, sometimes becoming for moments one with the mother.
When a woman aborts that which grows inside herself, she prevents that new growth of herself receiving a developing spirit.
Nothing more.
She says No!    Not this time!
Perhaps with guidance from my Higher Self, I will try to do this later!

Why Barack Obama Needs a Whuppin'
BAR executive editor Glen Ford
Barack Obama's candidacy for president reveals critical fissures in the historical African American worldview, forcing Black citizens and activists to make a choice:
Will we support a cosmetic change in regime that is no more than skin deep — endorsing the ruling structure because it has a Black face — or continue on the long journey to self-determination, true social democracy and peace.
Obama, the political twin of Hillary Clinton and the corporate Democratic Leadership Council her husband helped found, is determined to liquidate Black politics as an independent force in the United States, having already proclaimed, "There is no Black America."
"Obama personifies the definitive end of Black organized struggle in the United States."
Barack Obama is the antithesis of Black Power, a man who promises with every word he speaks, with every nuance of phrase and body language, and through his voting record as a U.S. Senator, that he personifies the definitive end of Black organized struggle in the United States — a unilateral surrender to white racism.
This is his appeal to the white masses: that they will no longer be challenged to confront history, or to relinquish privilege in the present.
Obama's siren song to African Americans is of an entirely different nature.
He does not have to sing it; we provide the music, ourselves.
The lyrics and melody are actually alien to Obama, but he has heard them off and on in his strange sojourn through life, and senses their power to sway us.
He understands that most of us will demand nothing from him — not even elemental allegiance.
His "Black" flank, he knows, is covered, while his white "progressive" flank is neutralized and confused by Black failure to recoil at his betrayals of the most basic elements of social democracy.
The field is wide open to the greatest opportunist to emerge from melanin-rich ranks in the New Millennium.
Obama has already cashed in on his "Race, but not really, Card" — to the tune of $25 million dollars in contributions in the first three months of this year, three-quarters of it from corporations.
This does not happen by accident.
Since setting foot in the U.S. Senate, Obama has directed his entire message machine to the task of convincing corporate America that he is a friend who can be counted on to leave the actual Power Game in their hands.
One of his first votes was to transfer most class action suits to federal courts, where multi-billion-dollar companies found guilty of race, gender or general employee abuse are fined the equivalent of the millionaire CEO's latest weekend at the casinos in Monaco.
In the process of taking class action suits out of state courts, where the penalties to offending corporations have historically been much harsher, Obama voted against an amendment to put a cap of 30 percent on credit card debt charges.
A fraction of that multi-billion dollar gift to the most unproductive sector of the economy wound up in his campaign coffers.
"Obama understands that most of us will demand nothing from him — not even elemental allegiance."
The alienated man from Kansas, Hawaii, Indonesia and Harvard has not skipped a beat in his pursuit of Power Approval.
He stood down while only California Senator Barbara Boxer stood up to challenge the theft of Black voting rights in the 2004 election.
He coddled American Manifest Destiny queen Condoleezza Rice and Bush Supreme Court nominees, while doing nothing — absolutely nothing — to materially aid Katrina victims.
He has stuck like Crazy Glue to positions on the Iraq war and health care that are practically indistinguishable from Hillary Clinton's — and in no way threaten the military-industrial complex or health care-insurance industries.
Obama vows to add 100,000 more troops to the U.S. aggression and occupation force, to be deployed...wherever his masters want them to go.
Obama is a company man.
He knows the language, the subtle and overt signals, and emits them like a beacon.
Ruling circles have gotten the message, and that is why corporate media have made him a contender, and corporate billfolds have financed him.
The "skinny kid" made his bones at the Democratic National Convention, in August, 2004, while he was still an Illinois senatorial candidate — a shoo-in against the hopeless and deranged Black Republican Alan Keyes.
Obama put all white fears to rest:
"There is no white America.
"There is no black America.
"There is no Latino America.
"There is no Asian America.
"There is only the United States of America."
Hallelujah!
Therefore, there is no specific oppression of Black people in America (carried out by whites), and there is no Black polity worth paying attention to.
Voila, the problem of centuries is solved!
"Obama vows to add 100,000 more troops to the U.S. aggression and occupation force."
The litany of Obama's subsequent transgressions against the entirety of Black struggle is too long to recount in this article, and can only be understood as methodical elements of a studied plan to eliminate race as a subject of debate in American political life.
Obama is the NOT-Black candidate, who just looks Black, and will absolve white folks — like a priest behind a screen — of historical, present, and future sins.
He will integrate the mythical American narrative, washing it clean of real facts by his very presence and gleaming smile.
He is happy.   White folks are happy.   Blacks are happy.   Oh, happy days!
The Internal Enemy
In his journey to personal identity — dishonestly but expertly packaged for white and corporate audiences in his two books — Obama learned a salient and elemental fact of Black life: we want recognition by the nation as a whole, and some connection to the national narrative.
African Americans have claimed at least five U.S. presidents — Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Warren Harding, and Calvin Coolidge — as "soul brothers" in blood, alleging they have Black ancestors.
It does not matter that none of them, including Lincoln, thought of Black people as equals or even, in some cases, human.
Such is the hunger.
"Obama has become a great presence that threatens the very fabric of Black politics."
We at Black Agenda Report are not immune to the illness.
While our team was operating out of Black Commentator, in 2003, Bruce Dixon and I discovered that Obama was listed as a member of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), the corporate-funded rightwing of the party, created by white southern Democrats (Bill Clinton, Al Gore) for the purpose of blunting Black and labor influence in the party's affairs.
Obama was at the time a national nobody, not ranked as a front-runner in the Illinois senatorial primary.
We called him on his alleged affiliation with the DLC, which was posted for all to see.
He claimed to know nothing about it — a transparent lie.
But we gave the "brother" a pass, and engaged him in a dialogue.
There followed a month-long series of interchanges — June 5, June 12, June 19, June 26, 2003 — in which Obama danced like Mr. Bojangles to get around the issues at hand.
Was he a DLC Democrat, by affiliation or political affinity?
Finally, tiring of the charade and the reflexive spin from Obama's mouth, Dixon and I compiled three questions to the wannabe senator, the answers to which would determine if he should be in the DLC and, therefore, unworthy of our support.
Obama, a genius at double-speak, fudged all three, on the Iraq war, universal health care, and NAFTA/so-called free trade.
We gave him a pass, and said he was clean, although both of us knew by then he was an inveterate liar and evader.
He had actually flunked the "bright line" test.
Neither of us wanted to be the ones to put a damper on an up-and-coming Black star.
We understood that our people didn't want crabs in the barrel, pulling brothers down, or the appearance of it.
We apologize, to our people and to history.
Since that time as a nobody, Obama has become a great presence that threatens the very fabric of Black politics, having declared there is no such thing.
At a recent gathering of Black trade unionists who support the most left-wing social democratic agenda that is allowed in American political discourse, Obama was treated as a savior — despite the fact that his applause-filled speech endorsed almost none of the specific planks of Black trade unionists.
He had fudged again, and gotten away with it.
No white man could pull it off, but Obama did, and entertained fans for an hour afterwards, taking pictures with folks who wanted to show their grandchildren that they had been in the presence of the next Black president.
He is a knife in our heart.

US and Israel plan for dissolution of Iraq
The idea of "the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi'ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part" was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982
It was devised as part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his "Strategy for Israel in the 1980s," published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism.
Published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982.
(It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)
A Clean Break — paper drawn up by US Paul Wolfowitz and others
The idea of splitting the Shi'ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in "A Clean Break" a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the "Clean Break."
The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article "The Three-State Solution" published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations).
US and West's occupation-for-oil war on Iraq continues
The same idea was reiterated, this time with "bi-partisan support" in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in "Unity through Autonomy in Iraq," in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.
Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.

'Kill Anyone Still Alive': American Special Ops in Somalia
Written by Chris Floyd

War on terror — Radio and TV — Nuclear Weapons — Somalia

Mogadishu

Somalia
Mogadishu
Somalia
How many people did American forces actually kill when they attacked refugees fleeing from the U.S.-backed Ethiopian invasion of Somalia last January?
We know from reports by Oxfam, the Guardian, the Associated Press and Reuters that dozens of innocent civilians were slaughtered near the Kenyan border, including villagers and nomadic tribesmen "mistakenly" targeted by American gunships seeking to kill alleged al Qaeda operatives who may or may not have been among the refugees.
But a new story in Esquire magazine — detailing the creation of America's most recent military satrapy, the Africa Command — provides disturbing information that the post-invasion killing by American operatives in Somalia was far more extensive — and deliberate — than previously known.
[Extensive background on the war in Somalia can be found here.]
The Esquire piece, by Thomas Barnett, is a mostly glowing portrait of the Africa Command, which, we are told, is designed to wed military, diplomatic, and development prowess in a seamless package, a whole new way of projecting American power: "pre-emptive nation-building instead of pre-emptive regime change," or as Barnett describes it at another point, "Iraq done right."
Although Barnett's glib, jargony, insider piece — told entirely from the point of view of U.S. military officials — does contain bits of critical analysis, it is in no way an expose.
The new details he presents on the post-invasion slaughter are thus even more chilling, as they are offered simply as an acceptable, ordinary aspect of this laudable new enterprise.
Barnett reveals that the gunship attacks on refugees were just the first part of the secret U.S. mission that was "Africa Command's" debut on the imperial stage.
Kill anyone still alive — leave no unidentified bodies behind
Soon after the attacks, "Task Force 88, a very secret American special-operations unit," was helicoptered into the strike area.
As Barnett puts it: "The 88's job was simple: Kill anyone still alive and leave no unidentified bodies behind."

'Kill Anyone Still Alive': American Special Ops in Somalia
Written by Chris Floyd

THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THE US TERROR STATE KILLS WITH MISSILES
Some 70,000 people fled their homes in the first wave of the Ethiopian invasion.
(More than 400,000 fled the brutal consolidation of the invasion in Mogadishu last spring.)
Tens of thousands of these initial refugees headed toward the Kenyan border, where the American gunships struck.
When the secret operation was leaked, Bush Administration officials said that American planes were trying to hit three alleged al Qaeda operative who had allegedly been given sanctuary by the Islamic Councils government decapitated by the Ethiopians.
But Barnett's insiders told him that the actual plan was to wipe out thousands of "foreign fighters" whom Pentagon officials believed had joined the Islamic Courts forces.
"Honestly, nobody had any idea just how many there really were," Barnett was told.
"But we wanted to get them all."
Thus the Kenyan border area — where tens of thousands of civilians were fleeing — was meant to be "a killing zone,"
Barnett writes:
America's first AC-130 gunship went wheels-up on January 7 from that secret Ethiopian airstrip.
After each strike, anybody left alive was to be wiped out by successive waves of Ethiopian commandos and Task Force 88, operating out of Manda Bay.
The plan was to rinse and repeat 'until no more bad guys, as one officer put it.
At this point, Barnett — or his sources — turn coy.
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THE US TERROR STATE KILLS WITH MISSILES
We know there were multiple gunship strikes; and from Barnett's account, we know that the "88s" did go in at least once after the initial gunship attack to "kill anyone still alive and leave no unidentified bodies behind."
But Barnett's story seems to suggest that once active American participation in the war was leaked, the "killing zone" was abandoned at some point.
So there is no way of knowing at this point how many survivors of the American attacks were then killed by the "very special secret special-operations unit," or how many "rinse-and-repeat" cycles the "88s" were able to carry out in what Barnett called "a good plan."
Nor do we know just who the "88s" killed.
As noted, the vast majority of refugees were civilians, just as the majority of the victims killed by the American gunship raids were civilians.
Did the "88s" move in on the nomadic tribesmen decimated by the air attack and "kill everyone still alive"?
Or did they restrict themselves to killing any non-Somalis they found among the refugees?
Concerning the latter, evidently it is now a capital crime, worthy of instant death by special ops or air raid or drone-fired missile, for any Muslim of any nationality to visit or take part in an Islamic regime which the U.S. government dislikes - even if, like Somalia's Islamic Councils government, that regime is not at war with the United States and strenuously denies any connection to al Qaeda.
This is borne out by the "good plan" to kill "thousands of foreign fighters" who had, allegedly, come to the aid of the Islamic Courts government (just like the thousands of foreign fighters who joined the American-backed jihad against the Soviets in Afghanistan).
There was an automatic, unquestioned assumption by the Pentagon that these people were to be wiped out to the last man.
This does not seem to jibe very well with "Africa Command's" professed intent to win the hearts and minds of Africa's Muslims and prevent encroachment by extremists there.
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THE US TERROR STATE KILLS WITH MISSILES
But then, none of Bush's "Terror War" policies seem designed to produce their ostensible goal.
Indeed, a cynic might be forgiven for suspecting that the formenting of extremism, violence and endless, ever-profitable war was in fact the actual aim of these policies.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave an hour and a half-long press conference which was attended by many members of the world media.
The contents of that meeting — in which Putin answered all questions concerning nuclear proliferation, human rights, Kosovo, democracy and the present confrontation with the United States over missile defense in Europe — have been completely censored by the press.
Apart from one brief excerpt which appeared in a Washington Post editorial, (and which was used to criticize Putin) the press conference has been scrubbed from the public record.
It never happened.
(Read the entire press conference archived

Putin’s performance was a tour de force.
He fielded all of the questions however misleading or insulting.
He was candid and statesmanlike and demonstrated a good understanding of all the main issues.

US plan for regime change in Moscow
The meeting gave Putin a chance to give his side of the story in the growing debate over missile defense in Eastern Europe.
He offered a brief account of the deteriorating state of US-Russian relations since the end of the Cold War, and particularly from 9-11 to present.
Since September 11, the Bush administration has carried out an aggressive strategy to surround Russia with military bases, install missiles on its borders, topple allied regimes in Central Asia, and incite political upheaval in Moscow through US-backed "pro-democracy" groups.
These openly hostile actions have convinced many Russian hard-liners that the administration is going forward with the neocon plan for "regime change" in Moscow and fragmentation of the Russian Federation.
Putin’s testimony suggests that the hardliners are probably right.
The Bush administration’s belligerent foreign policy has backed the Kremlin into a corner and forced Putin to take retaliatory measures.
He has no other choice.
If we want to understand why relations between Russia are quickly reaching the boiling-point; we only need to review the main developments since the end of the Cold War.
Political analyst Pat Buchanan gives a good rundown of these in his article
"Doesn’t Putin Have a Point?"

US army base
Al-Meshahda, Iraq
Buchanan says:
"Though the Red Army had picked up and gone home from Eastern Europe voluntarily, and Moscow felt it had an understanding we would not move NATO eastward, we exploited our moment.
Not only did we bring Poland into NATO, we brought in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, and virtually the whole Warsaw Pact, planting NATO right on Mother Russia's front porch.
Now, there is a scheme afoot to bring in Ukraine and Georgia in the Caucasus, the birthplace of Stalin.
Second, America backed a pipeline to deliver Caspian Sea oil from Azerbaijan through Georgia to Turkey, to bypass Russia.
Third, though Putin gave us a green light to use bases in the old Soviet republics for the liberation of Afghanistan, we now seem hell-bent on making those bases in Central Asia permanent.
Fourth, though Bush sold missile defense as directed at rogue states like North Korea, we now learn we are going to put anti-missile systems into Eastern Europe.
And against whom are they directed?
Fifth, through the National Endowment for Democracy, its GOP and Democratic auxiliaries, and tax-exempt think tanks, foundations, and "human rights" institutes such as Freedom House, headed by ex-CIA director James Woolsey, we have been fomenting regime change in Eastern Europe, the former Soviet republics, and Russia herself.
U.S.-backed revolutions have succeeded in Serbia, Ukraine, and Georgia, but failed in Belarus.
Moscow has now legislated restrictions on the foreign agencies that it sees, not without justification, as subversive of pro-Moscow regimes.
Sixth, America conducted 78 days of bombing of Serbia for the crime of fighting to hold on to her rebellious province, Kosovo, and for refusing to grant NATO marching rights through her territory to take over that province.
Mother Russia has always had a maternal interest in the Orthodox states of the Balkans.
These are Putin's grievances.
Does he not have a small point?"

Same is true of other world leaders who choose to use their vast resources to improve the lives of their own citizens
Yes — as Buchanan opines — Putin does have a point, which is why his press conference was suppressed.
The media would rather demonize Putin, than allow him to make his case to the public.
(The same is true of other world leaders who choose to use their vast resources to improve the lives of their own citizens rather that hand them over to the transnational oil giants; such as, Mahmud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez)
Even so, NATO has not yet endorsed the neocon missile defense plan and, according to recent surveys, public opinion in Poland and the Czech Republic is overwhelmingly against it.
Unsurprisingly, the Bush administration is going ahead regardless of the controversy.
No one should doubt Putin is determined to protect his country
Putin cannot allow the United States to deploy its missile defense system to Eastern Europe.
The system poses a direct threat to Russia’s national security.
If Putin planned to deploy a similar system in Cuba or Mexico, the Bush administration would immediately invoke the Monroe Doctrine and threaten to remove it by force.
No one doubts this.
And no one should doubt that Putin is equally determined to protect his own country’s interests in the same way.
We can expect that Russia will now aim its missiles at European targets and rework its foreign policy in a way that compels the US to abandon its current plans.

Nuclear first-strike against Russia
The media has tried to minimize the dangers of the proposed system.
The Washington Post even characterized it as "a small missile defense system" which has set off "waves of paranoia about domestic and foreign opponents".
Nonsense.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
As Putin said at the press conference:
"Once the missile defense system is put in place IT WILL WORK AUTOMATICALLY WITH THE ENTIRE NUCLEAR CAPABILITY OF THE UNITED STATES.
I"t will be an integral part of the US nuclear capability.
"For the first time in history — and I want to emphasize this — there are elements of the US nuclear capability on the European continent.
It simply changes the whole configuration of international security... Of course, we have to respond to that."
Putin is right.
The "so-called" defense system is actually an expansion (and integration) of America’s existing nuclear weapons system which will now function as one unit.
The dangers of this should be obvious.
The Bush administration is maneuvering in a way that will allow it to achieve what Nuclear weapons specialist, Francis A. Boyle, calls the "longstanding US policy of nuclear first-strike against Russia".
In Boyle’s article "US Missiles in Europe: Beyond Deterrence to First Strike Threat" he states:
Terrorism
all paid for

taxpayers

children,

99%+ of Russian nuclear forces taken out
"By means of a US first strike about 99%+ of Russian nuclear forces would be taken out.
Namely, the United States Government believes that with the deployment of a facially successful first strike capability, they can move beyond deterrence and into "compellence...."
This has been analyzed ad nauseam in the professional literature.
But especially by one of Harvard's premier warmongers in chief, Thomas Schelling - winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics granted by the Bank of Sweden — who developed the term "compellence" and distinguished it from "deterrence."
...The USG is breaking out of a "deterrence" posture and moving into a "compellence" posture. (Global Research 6-6-07)
That’s right.
The real goal is to force Moscow to conform to Washington’s "diktats" or face the prospect of "first-strike" annihilation.
That’s why Putin has expressed growing concern over the administration’s dropping out of the ABM Treaty and the development of a new regime of low yield, bunker-busting nuclear weapons.
The "hawks" who surround Bush have abandoned the "deterrence" policy of the past, and now believe that a nuclear war can be "won" by the United States.
This is madness and it needs to be taken seriously.
The Bush administration sees itself as a main player in Central Asia and the Middle East - controlling vital resources and pipeline corridors throughout the region.
That means Russia’s influence will have to be diminished.
Boris Yeltsin was the perfect leader for the neoconservative master-plan (which is why the right-wingers Praised him when he died) Russia disintegrated under Yeltsin.
He oversaw the dismantling of the state, the plundering of its resources and state-owned assets, and the restructuring of its economy according to the tenets of neoliberalism.
No wonder the neocons loved him.

Russian Treasury began to convert Russia’s dollar reserves into gold and rubles
Under Putin, Russia has regained its economic footing, its regional influence and its international prestige.
The economy is booming, the ruble has stabilized, the standard of living has risen, and Moscow has strengthened alliances with its neighbors.
This new-found Russian prosperity poses a real challenge to Bush’s plans.
Two actions in particular have changed the Russian-US relationship from tepid to openly hostile.
The first was when Putin announced that Russia’s four largest oil fields would not be open to foreign development.
(Russia has been consolidating its oil wealth under state-run Gazprom)
And, second, when the Russian Treasury began to convert Russia’s dollar reserves into gold and rubles.
Both of these are regarded as high-crimes by US corporate chieftains and western elites.
Their response was swift.
John Edwards and Jack Kemp were appointed to lead a Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) task force which concocted the basic pretext for an all-out assault on the Putin.
This is where the idea that Putin is "rolling back democracy" began; it’s a feeble excuse for political antagonism.
In their article "Russia’s Wrong Direction", Edwards and Kemp state that a "strategic partnership" with Russia is no longer possible.
They note that the government has become increasingly "authoritarian" and that the society is growing less "open and pluralistic".
Blah, blah, blah.
No one in the Washington really cares about democracy.
(Just look at our "good friends" in Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan)
What they’re afraid of is Putin ditching the dollar and controlling his own oil.
That’s what counts.
Bush also wants Putin to support sanctions against Iran and rubber stamp a Security Council resolution to separate Kosovo form Serbia.
(Since when does the UN have the right to redraw national borders?
Was the creation of Israel such a stunning success that the Security Council wants to try its luck again?)
60 years of enslavement all paid for by US taxpayer money
Unipolar world model not accepted
Putin does not accept the "unipolar" world model.
As he said in Munich, the unipolar world refers to:
"A world in which there is one master, one sovereign - one centre of authority, one centre of force, one centre of decision-making.
"At the end of the day this is pernicious not only for all those within this system, but also for the sovereign itself because it destroys itself from within....
"What is even more important is that the model itself is flawed because at its basis there is and can be no moral foundations for modern civilization."
He added:
"Unilateral and frequently illegitimate actions have not resolved any problems.
"Moreover, they have caused new human tragedies and created new centers of tension.
"Judge for yourselves — wars as well as local and regional conflicts have not diminished.
"More are dying than before.
"Significantly more!
"Significantly more!
"Today we are witnessing an almost uncontained hyper use of force — military force — in international relations, force that is plunging the world into an abyss of permanent conflicts.
"We are seeing a greater and greater disdain for the basic principles of international law.
"And independent legal norms are, as a matter of fact, coming increasingly closer to one state’s legal system.
"One state and, of course, first and foremost the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way.
"This is visible in the economic, political, cultural and educational policies it imposes on other nations.
"Well, who likes this?
"Who is happy about this?
St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

I want to emphasise this — no one feels safe!
In international relations we increasingly see the desire to resolve a given question according to so-called issues of political expediency, based on the current political climate.
And of course this is extremely dangerous.
It results in the fact that no one feels safe.
I want to emphasise this — no one feels safe!
Because no one can feel that international law is like a stone wall that will protect them.
Of course such a policy stimulates an arms race.
I am convinced that we have reached that decisive moment when we must seriously think about the architecture of global security."
How can anyone dispute Putin’s analysis?
"Unilateral and illegitimate military actions", the "uncontained hyper-use of force", the "disdain for the basic principles of international law", and most importantly; "No one feels safe!"
These are the irrefutable facts.
Putin has simply summarized the Bush Doctrine better than anyone else.
The Bush administration has increased its frontline American bases to five thousand men on Russia’s perimeter.
Is this conduct of a "trustworthy ally"?
Also, NATO has deployed forces on Russia’s borders even while Putin has continued to fulfill his treaty obligations and move troops and military equipment hundreds of miles away.
Europe is being pumped full of new weapons systems
As Putin said on Tuesday:
"We have removed all of our heavy weapons from the European part of Russia and put them behind the Urals" and "reduced our Armed Forces by 300,000.
We have taken several other steps required by the Adapted Conventional Armed Forces Treaty in Europe (ACAF).
But what have we seen in response?
Eastern Europe is receiving new weapons, two new military bases are being set up in Romania and in Bulgaria, and there are two new missile launch areas - a radar in Czech republic and missile systems in Poland.
And we are asking ourselves the question: what is going on?
Russia is disarming unilaterally.
But if we disarm unilaterally then we would like to see our partners be willing to do the same thing in Europe.
On the contrary, Europe is being pumped full of new weapons systems.
And of course we cannot help but be concerned."

Who Destroyed the ABM?
(This is why Putin’s comments did not appear in the western media!
They would have been too damaging to the Bush administration and their expansionist plans)
[And to the elite who control Europe - Kewe - TheWE.biz]
Who Destroyed the ABM?
Putin said:
"We did not initiate the withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.
But what response did we give when we discussed this issue with our American partners?
We said that we do not have the resources and desire to establish such a system.
But as professionals we both understand that a missile defense system for one side and no such a system for the other creates an illusion of security and increases the possibility of a nuclear conflict.
The defense system WILL DESTROY THE STRATEGIC EQUILIBRIUM IN THE WORLD.
In order to restore that balance without setting up a missile defense system we will have to create a system to overcome missile defense, which is what we are doing now."
Putin:
"AN ARMS RACE IS UNFOLDING.
Was it we who withdrew from the ABM Treaty?
We must react to what our partners do.
We already told them two years ago, "don’t do this, you don’t need to do this.
What are you doing?
YOU ARE DESTROYING THE SYSTEM OF INTERNATIONAL SECURITY.
You must understand that you are forcing us to take retaliatory steps."
...we warned them.
No, they did not listen to us.
Then we heard about them developing low-yield nuclear weapons and they are continuing to develop these weapons."
We told them that:
"...it would be better to look for other ways to fight terrorism than create low-yield nuclear weapons and lower the threshold for using nuclear weapons, and thereby put humankind on the brink of nuclear catastrophe.
But they don’t listen to us.
They are not looking for compromise.
Their entire point of view can be summed-up in one sentence: 'Whoever is not with us is against us.’"
Putin asks:
"So what should we do?"
The present predicament has brought us "the brink of disaster".

Putin:
"Some people have the illusion that you can do everything just as you want, regardless of the interests of other people.
Of course it is for precisely this reason that the international situation gets worse and eventually results in an arms race as you pointed out.
But we are not the instigators.
We do not want it.
Why would we want to divert resources to this?
And we are not jeopardizing our relations with anyone.
But we must respond.
Name even one step that we have taken or one action of ours designed to worsen the situation.
There are none.
We are not interested in that.
We are interested in having a good atmosphere, environment and energy dialogue around Russia".
So, what should Putin do?
And how else can he meet his responsibilities to the Russian people without taking defensive "retaliatory" action to Bush’s act of war.
By expanding its nuclear capability to Europe, all of Russia is in imminent danger, and so, Putin must decide "precisely which means will be used to destroy the installations that our experts believe represent a potential threat for the Russian Federation".
(Note that Putin NEVER THREATENS TO AIM HIS MISSILES AT EUROPEAN CITIES AS WAS REPORTED IN THE WESTERN MEDIA)
Putin has made great strides in improving life for the Russian people.
That is why his public approval rating is soaring at 75%.
The Russian economy has been growing by 7% a year.
He’s lowered the number of people living beneath the poverty-line by more than half and will bring it down to European levels by 2010.
Real incomes are growing by an astonishing 12% per year.
As Putin says:
"Combating poverty is one of our top priorities and we still have to do a lot to improve our pension system too because the correlation between pensions and the average wage is still lower here than in Europe."
If only that was true in America!
We have a proverb in Russian, 'Don’t blame the mirror if your face is crooked.’
Russia now has the ninth largest economy in the world and has amassed enormous gold and currency reserves — the third largest in the world.
It is also one of the leading players in international energy policy with a daily-oil output which now exceeds Saudi Arabia.
It is also the largest producer of natural gas in the world.
Russia will only get stronger as we get deeper into the century and energy resources become scarcer.
Putin strongly objects to the idea that he is not committed to human rights or is "rolling back democracy".
He points out how truncheon-wielding police in Europe routinely use tear gas, electric-shock devices and water cannons to disperse demonstrators.
Is that how the West honors human rights and civil liberties?
As for the Bush administration — Putin produced a copy of Amnesty International’s yearly report condemning the United States conduct in the war on terror.
"I have a copy of Amnesty International’s report here, which includes a section on the United States," he said.
Amnesty: UNITED STATES IS NOW THE PRINCIPLE VIOLATOR OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS WORLDWIDE
"The organization has concluded that the United States IS NOW THE PRINCIPLE VIOLATOR OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS WORLDWIDE."
He added:
"We have a proverb in Russian, 'Don’t blame the mirror if your face is crooked.’"
Putin is fiercely nationalistic.
He has helped to restore Russia’s self-confidence and rebuild the economy.
He’s demonstrated a willingness to compromise with the Bush administration on every substantive issue, but he has been repeatedly rebuffed.
The last thing he wants is a nuclear standoff with the United States.
But he will do what he must to defend his people from the threat of foreign attack.
The deployment of the missile defense system will require that Russia develop its own new weapons systems and change its thinking about trusting the United States.
Friendship is not possible in the present climate.
As for "democracy"; Putin said it best himself:
"Am I a 'pure democrat’? (laughs) Of course I am, absolutely.
The problem is that I’m all alone — the only one of my kind in the whole wide world.
Just look at what’s happening in North America, it’s simply awful — torture, homeless people, Guantanamo, people detained without trial and investigation.
Just look at what’s happening in Europe — harsh treatment of demonstrators, rubber bullets and tear gas used first in one capital then in another, demonstrators killed on the streets...
I have no one to talk to since Mahatma Gandhi died."
Well said, Vladimir.

PNAC wizards:
... Hey!   Not only are these safe as houses, but they are insured.   What could possibly go wrong!
This is the Triple B, Triple A, Single A jargon that you hear talked about.   The ratings like Moody's, Standard & Poor's, Fitch are the ones who give the ratings.   Part of the reason they give the Triple A rating is because it is a Municipal Bond which is safe and insured....
Now here is the problem — if the insurers crumble then that [Triple A for Municipal Bonds] rating might go away.   It is inherently risker now to hold such an investment.
Triple A is supposed to be as safe as Government Treasuries.   In order for the Government Treasuries to not pay it would have to be Mad Max time.   So Triple A is top level, equal to Government Securities unless the country [and Western world economic system — Kewe TheWE.biz] collapses.
Insurance companies are clearly not as safe as Triple A Treasuries.   We all know this.   But they [these insurance companies] are not getting downgraded.   Why are they not getting downgraded?   Because it will create a cascade failure.
If the insurance companies [insuring Municipal Bonds] loose their Triple A rating... Municipal Bonds that these insurance companies insured will loose their Triple A rating.
That's when it gets really bad because standing orders in many Trading Houses say if its Triple A then buy it, if it's not Triple A we can not hold it and we have to sell it.   'Because I have a pension fund and I need to take care of old grandmas.'
... Now what happens?   Well, Trading Houses have invested a bunch of money into a security that is no longer Triple A.   They are forced to sell.
If insurance companies [insuring Municipal Bonds] get downgraded, Municipal Bonds are no longer as safe as they once were and stand to be downgraded.   This means that a whole bunch of institutions that hold them will be forced to sell them, by policy.   That would be a collapse in the funding that allows municipalities to build hospitals and fire stations... and schools and everything else.
Everyone realizes this and they try to protect Municipal Bonds at all cost.
Hedge Funds are getting margin calls for whom their credit has disappeared — the people who loaned the credit wanting their money back because not only [have Hedge Funds bought] Municipal Bonds but more speculative things such as Sub Prime.
Hedge Funds are taking losses...   big losses.   They are getting margin calls and so they are going to have to sell good things to get money to pay for their margin calls.   What Hedge Funds have chosen to sell — Municipal Bonds.   [the only thing they have that's worth anything — Kewe TheWE.biz]
...   Municipal Bonds are trading today twenty to forty times the normal volume.
[Now in addition] The cops have finally shown up!
... The Municipal Derivative Business is under probe as to anti-trust.   US Prosecutors and the Securities and Exchange Commission have been searching for more than a year for evidence of rigged bidding and other misconduct by banks that sell Investments and Derivatives such as Interest Rate Swaps tied to Municipal Bonds...   Lawyers in the Municipal Bonds industry say the criminal probe is the biggest in the history of the almost two-hundred year old market.
States, Cities and Towns have 2.6 Trillion dollars of debt outstanding....
Transactions as far back as 1992 are under investigation.
... Banks lend to each other.   Banks have Capital Requirements — You have to have a certain amount of money in your vaults, of cash — If I give my bank ten dollars, they can take nine dollars of that and lend it out.
... Think of how many times these loans get resold.   It's the fact that [now] the loan packages are not going to be sold to anyone else.   A loan [has been] put out and this gets bought by someone else and that becomes collateral for another loan on the inside of the banking system, and that may in fact turn into something else entirely.
This same collateral [for a house] has been used on multiple loans so that one house could turn into [pseudo ten or a hundred houses] because these [subsequent] loans have been made safe by the Insurance Companies.
This is what we call leverage.   It's great on the way up.   It's awful on the way down.
... It's a complete smoke and mirrors game.   The economics is how I feel.   ... The Fed Rate Cut is purely a psychological attack if you will on our Bear Mind to make us think, 'Oh Yeah! Buy Again!'
It's also a failure of them [the Feds] to defend the current rate.
This is a double layered lie in that it is psychological in nature, also completely false in that the Fed does not actually Cut a Rate.   The Market does.   The Fed simply announces data.   They fool everyone in to thinking they are setting the rate.
The Fed's real power is jawboning.   They have some ability to 'Inject Liquidity' which means they are 'Selling Debt' ...   The Fed rarely does Permanent Loans.   It much more does Temporary Loans which have to be paid back within 30 and 90 days.
That loan has interest attached to it.
... Sub Prime losses are thought to be in the 400 to 600 Billion dollar range.   That does not account for Municipal or Corporate Debt Losses.
You have that money vanishing.   You have 2 Trillion vanishing.   You have all the products that could have been made off that 2 Trillion leveraged vanishing.
This is very heavily Deflationary.
Both Inflationary and Deflationary pressures are occurring right now.   For instance Gold is going up, Oil is going up.   This is Price Inflation.   This is Monetary Origination Deflation.   Total dollars in the system vanishing.
If our 'Shadowy Masters' wanted to destroy this country it would be done by Deflation.
[Deflation for high ticket items so the rich elite with money get to buy homes, stocks cheaper, inflation for food, transportation and anything to do with oil, for us poor folks to pay them, adding to their wealth

9/11
By all accounts, the unprecedented events of September 11th, 2001 changed the way our country functions, and in turn, the world.
It is therefore critical that conscientious Americans, as well as people around the globe, understand these events in detail.
Unfortunately the official reports, including The 9/11 Commission Report and the NIST WTC Report, written by those working under the direction of the Bush Administration, have been proven to be elaborate cover-ups.
Film: 9/11 Revisited
September 11th Revisited is perhaps the most riveting film ever made about the destruction of the World Trade Center.
This is a powerful documentary which features eyewitness accounts and archived news footage that was shot on September 11, 2001 but never replayed on television.
Featuring interviews with eyewitnesses & firefighters, along with expert analysis by Professor Steven E. Jones, Professor David Ray Griffin, MIT Engineer Jeffrey King, and Professor James H. Fetzer.
This film provides stunning evidence that explosives were used in the complete demolition of the WTC Twin Towers and WTC Building 7.

Putin warns Europe in missile row

Russia has not pointed missiles towards Europe since the end of the Cold War.
Last week, Russia said it had tested a ballistic missile to maintain "strategic balance" in the world.
The US wants to expand its missile defences into Eastern Europe. It says the system is not aimed at Russia but Moscow says its security is threatened.
'Not our fault'
Mr Putin made the comments in an interview published in Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera ahead of the G8 meeting which starts in Germany on Wednesday.
If the American nuclear potential grows in European territory, we have to give ourselves new targets in Europe
President Vladimir Putin
He repeated warnings that the US defence shield could lead to a new arms race but said it would the fault of the Americans if this happened.
He said the US had "altered the strategic balance" by unilaterally pulling out of the anti-ballistic missile (ABM) treaty in 2002.
"If the American nuclear potential grows in European territory, we have to give ourselves new targets in Europe," Mr Putin said.
"It is up to our military to define these targets, in addition to defining the choice between ballistic and cruise missiles."
US President George W Bush is due to meet Mr Putin at the three-day G8 summit in the German resort of Heiligendamm.
Washington wants to deploy interceptor rockets in Poland and a radar base in the Czech Republic to counter what it describes as a potential threat from "rogue states" such as Iran and North Korea.
Last Tuesday, Russia tested an RS-24 missile that successfully struck its target 5,500km (3,400 miles) away.
It was designed to evade missile defence systems, Russia's defence ministry said.

'New empire'
Moscow and the West have been in dispute over Iraq, America's plans for a missile defence system and civil rights within Russia itself.
Britain's extradition request for a Russian man in connection with the murder of ex-agent Alexander Litvinenko has also caused tension.
In an interview with Radio Four's The World This Weekend, Mr Gorbachev said relations between Russia and the West were in a bad state.
If the American nuclear potential grows in European territory, we have to give ourselves new targets in Europe
President Vladimir Putin
"Well, it's worse than I expected," he said through a translator.
"We lost 15 years after the end of the Cold War, but the West I think and particularly the United States, our American friends, were dizzy with their success, with the success of their game that they were playing, a new empire.
"I don't understand why you, the British, did not tell them, 'Don't think about empire, we know about empires, we know that all empires break up in the end, so why start again to create a new mess.'"
He added that the war with Iraq had damaged Britain's relationship with Russia after a promising start.
"Tony Blair and Putin established a very good relationship and that made it possible to advance our relationship," he said.
"But then Iraq happened and Tony found himself in the embrace of that military monster, of that war situation, and he lost a lot of his credibility in the world and in Europe."

US to Develop New Hydrogen Bomb
by Ralph Vartabedian
The Energy Department will announce today a contract to develop the nation's first new hydrogen bomb in two decades, involving a collaboration between three national weapons laboratories, The Times has learned.
The new bomb will include design features from all three labs, though Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Bay Area appears to have taken the lead position in the project. The Los Alamos and Sandia labs in New Mexico will also be part of the project.
Teams of scientists in California and New Mexico have been working since last year to develop the new bomb, using the world's most powerful supercomputers.
Take note of the words used folks — TheWE.biz
The weapon is known as the reliable replacement warhead and is intended to replace aging warheads now deployed on missiles aboard Trident submarines.
The contract decision was made by the Nuclear Weapons Council, which consists of officials from the Defense Department and the National Nuclear Security Administration, part of the Energy Department. Plans were underway Thursday to announce the award this afternoon.
The nuclear administration will issue the contract and run the program.
The cost of the development is secret, though outside experts said it would cost billions of dollars — perhaps tens of billions — to develop the bomb, build factories to restart high-volume weapons production and then assemble the weapons.
If Livermore does become the lead laboratory, confidence in the facility is likely to be bolstered, and political suggestions that its role in weapons development is unnecessary could be quelled.
A lead role by Los Alamos would help extract that facility from deep political problems growing out of security breaches.
The program is not expected to create a surge in employment at any of the labs
The program marks the first time the military has fielded a nuclear weapon design without an underground test. The last time scientists set off a hydrogen bomb was in 1991 under the Nevada desert.
President Clinton ordered a testing moratorium, and it has been continued by President Bush.
Note the words — how you are being persuaded to accept — TheWE.biz
Since the reason for building the new bomb is to maintain confidence in the nation's nuclear deterrent, experts say, the Nuclear Weapons Council will want the most conservative design, which gives Livermore the upper hand.
The design details are secret, but Livermore's version utilizes major components that had been tested — though not produced — for a Navy bomb about two decades ago.
By contrast, Los Alamos selected a design that involved an atomic trigger and a thermonuclear component that had been tested individually.
However, the two elements were never tested together, said Philip Coyle, who serves on scientific advisory committees and formerly was deputy director at Livermore.
Spin to keep you asleep — TheWE.biz
The Los Alamos design is said to contain highly attractive features, including innovative mechanisms that would prevent terrorists from detonating the bomb should they gain access to it, experts said.
Those use controls were cited by military officials as a key factor in developing the weapon.
Proponents of the effort say that the nation's existing nuclear stockpile is getting old and that doubts will eventually grow about weapons reliability.
They say the new bomb will not have a greater nuclear yield and could not perform any new military missions beyond those of existing weapons.
So far, those arguments have attracted bipartisan support, including from Democrats who have long played a leading role in nuclear arms issues.
Critics say the existing stockpile is perfectly reliable and can be maintained for decades.
The new bomb will undermine U.S. efforts to stop nuclear proliferation, they say.
In addition, a recent study showed that plutonium components in existing weapons were aging much more slowly than expected.

New study from Pilots for 9/11 Truth:
No Boeing 757 hit the Pentagon
New study from Pilots for 9/11 Truth:

No Boeing 757 hit the Pentagon
Thu Jun 21, 3:01 AM ET
Pilots for 9/11 Truth obtained black box data from the government under the Freedom of Information Act for AA Flight 77, which The 9/11 Report claims hit the Pentagon.
Analysis of the data contradicts the official account in direction, approach, and altitude.
The plane was too high to hit lamp posts and would have flown over the Pentagon, not impacted with its ground floor.
This result confirms and strengthens the previous findings of Scholars for 9/11 Truth that no Boeing 757 hit the buillding.
Madison, WI (PRWEB) June 21, 2007 - A study of the black box data provided by the government to Pilots for 9/11 Truth has confirmed the previous findings of Scholars for 9/11 Truth that no Boeing 757 hit the Pentagon on 9/11.
"We have had four lines of proof that no Boeing 757 hit the building," said James Fetzer, founder of Scholars for 9/11 Truth.
"This new study by Pilots drives another nail into a coffin of lies told the American people by The 9/11 Commission":
The new society, an international organization of pilots and aviation professionals, petitioned the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) under the Freedom of Information Act and obtained its 2002 report on American Airlines Flight 77.
A Boeing 757 that, according to the official account, hit the ground floor of the Pentagon after it skimmed over the lawn at 500 mph plus, taking out a series of lamp posts in the process.
The pilots not only obtained the flight data but created a computer animation to demonstrate what it told them.
According to the report issued by Pilots for 9/11 Truth (
http://pilotsfor911truth.org/ ), there are major differences between the official account and the flight data:
a. The NTSB Flight Path Animation approach path and altitude does not support official events.
b. All Altitude data shows the aircraft at least 300 feet too high to have struck the light poles.
c. The rate of descent data is in direct conflict with the aircraft being able to impact the light poles and be captured in the Dept of Defense "5 Frames" video of an object traveling nearly parallel with the Pentagon lawn.
d. The record of data stops at least one second prior to official impact time.
e. If data trends are continued, the aircraft altitude would have been at least 100 feet too high to have hit the Pentagon.
As Robert Balsamo, co-founder of Pilots for 9/11 Truth, observes:
"The information in the NSTB documents does not support, and in some instances factually contradicts, the official government position that American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon on the morning of September 11, 2001."
The study was signed by fifteen professional pilots with extensive military and commercial carrier experience.
They have made their animation, "Pandora's Box: Chapter 2," available to the public at
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4648624627192508186
According to James H. Fetzer, founder of Scholars for 9/11 Truth ( http://911scholars.org ), this result fits into the broader picture of what happened at the Pentagon that day.
"We have developed four lines of argument that prove — conclusively, in my judgment — that no Boeing 757 hit the building.
The most important evidence to the contrary has been the numerous eyewitness reports of a large commercial carrier coming toward the building.
If the NTSB data is correct, then the Pilot's study shows that a large aircraft headed toward the building but did not impact with it. It swerved off and flew above the Pentagon."
Fetzer, who retired last June after 35 years of teaching courses in logic, critical thinking, and scientific reasoning, expressed pleasure over the Pilot's results, which, he said, has neatly resolved the most pressing issue that remained about the Pentagon.
He added,
"We have previously developed several lines of argument, each of which proves that no Boeing 757 hit the building."
(1) The hit point at the Pentagon was too small to accommodate a 100-ton airliner with a 125-foot wingspan and a tail that stands 44 feet above the ground; the kind and quantity of debris was wrong for a Boeing 757: there were no wings, no fuselage, no seats, no bodies, no luggage, no tail!
Not even the engines were recovered, and they are practically indestructible.
(2) Of an estimate 84 videotapes of the crash, the three that have been released by the Pentagon do not show a Boeing 757 hitting the building, as even Bill O'Reilly admitted when one was shown on "The Factor".
At 155 feet, the plane was more than twice as long as the 77-foot Pentagon is high and should have been visible.
There are indications of a much smaller plane, but not a Boeing 757.
(3) Indeed, the aerodynamics of flight would have made the official trajectory — flying more than 500 mph barely above ground level — physically impossible, because of the accumulation of a massive pocket of compressed gas (air) beneath the fuselage; and if it had come it at an angle instead, it would have created a massive crater; but there is no crater and the official trajectory is impossible.
(4) Flying low enough to impact with the ground floor would have meant that the enormous engines were plowing the ground and creating massive furrows; but there are no massive furrows.
The smooth, unblemished surface of the Pentagon lawn thus stands as a "smoking gun" proving the official trajectory cannot be sustained.
Members of Scholars have contributed to a new book that analyses the government's official account, according to which 19 Islamic fundamentalists hijacked four commercial airliners, outfoxed the most sophisticated air-defense system in the world, and committed these atrocities under the control of a man in a cave in Afghanistan.
Entitled, THE 9/11 CONSPIRACY (2007), it includes photographs of the hit point before and after the upper floors collapsed, the crucial frame from the released videos, and views of the clear, smooth, and unblemished lawn.
"Don't be taken in by photos showing damage to the second floor or those taken after the upper floors collapsed, which happened 20-30 minutes later," Fetzer said.
"In fact, debris begins to show up on the completely clean lawn in short order, which might have been dropped from a C-130 that was circling above the Pentagon or placed there by men in suits who were photographed carrying debris with them."
The most striking is a piece from the fuselage of a commercial airliner, which is frequently adduced as evidence.
James Hanson, a newspaper reporter who earned his law degree from the University of Michigan College of Law, has traced that debris to an American Airlines 757 that crashed in a rain forest above Cali, Columbia in 1995.
"It was the kind of slow-speed crash that would have torn off paneling in this fashion, with no fires, leaving them largely intact."
Fetzer has been so impressed with his research he has invited Hanson to submit his study to Scholars for consideration for publication on its web site,
http://911scholars.org .
"The Pentagon has become a kind of litmus test for rationality in the study of 9/11," Fetzer said.
"Those who persist in maintaining that a Boeing 757 hit the building are either unfamiliar with the evidence or cognitively impaired.
Unless," he added, "they want to mislead the American people.   The evidence is beyond clear and compelling.   It places this issue 'beyond a reasonable doubt'.   No Boeing 757 hit the Pentagon."

Please be advised when reviewing the article entitled "New Study From Pilots For 9/11 Truth: No Boeing 757 Hit The Pentagon" the following.
These (relatively minor) points are made in the interest of historical accuracy.
  • Pilots for 9/11 Truth did not write it and some corrections need to be stated.
Athough Pilots for 9/11 Truth did not initiate this press release, which was sent out by Scholars for 9/11 Truth, our society is grateful to Scholars for emphasizing its importance in understanding events at the Pentagon on 9/11.
  • Pilotsfor911truth.org does not make the claim that "No Boeing 757 hit the Pentagon".   We have analyzed the Flight Data Recorder data provided by the NTSB and have shown factual analysis of that data.   We do not offer theory.
While we do not make this claim in these words, the analysis we present on the basis of the NTSB's own data factually contradicts the official account that Flight 77 hit the Pentagon — if trends are continued beyond end of data records — and therefore supports the inference that American Airlines Flight 77 did not hit the building based upon that data.
  • Pilotsfor911truth.org did not create the animation, which we included in " Pandora's Black Box Chapter Two ".   The NTSB provided the animation based upon its own data and spread spread sheets which can be found at our site/forums.
Since the NTSB is a government agency and, indeed, is the agency designated by the government to conduct this investigation — the FBI has jurisdiction to conduct the investigation when the incident is determined to be of a criminal nature, see
http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_id=2...123X00105&key=1 — we find it hard to believe that someone within one of these agencies did not know immediately that its findings contradict the official account.
The NTSB and FBI are now well aware of these contradictions due to the work of pilotsfor911truth.org and have refused to comment.   THE 9/11 COMMISSION REPORT also contradicts the NTSB Flight Path Study in terms of impact time, speeds, and distance from Pentagon in initiating the 330 degree manuever, even though THE REPORT itself footnotes the NTSB Flight Path Study for this information.
    [See
    http://pilotsfor911truth.org/pentagon.html (bottom of the page)]
  • Pilotsfor911truth.org created a documentary based on the NTSB data using its animation.   The title is " Pandora's Black Box - Chapter Two: Flight Of American 77 " and can be found through google or on our site.
Links to our documentary are included in most of the published versions of the press releases from Scholars and can be found on pilotsfor911truth.org.
  • Our official press release is signed by all our members.   In the interest of saving space, we included only a handful of members on the actual release with a URL to the full core member list.   The original pilotsfor911truth.org press release is available at http://pilotsfor911truth.org/pressrelease.html
Not only the fifteen persons named from Pilots support our study but all of our members endorse it.   We stand behind our research and are grateful that more of the public will know about it, thanks to Scholars.
  • Thank you.

Why are the West's elites trying to start a nuclear war?
    Because you pay for it
    BBC — Friday, 26 October 2007
    Putin gives stark missile warning
Russian President Vladimir Putin says US plans for a missile shield could precipitate a situation similar to the Cuban missile crisis of the 1960s.
Mr Putin was speaking after a summit with EU leaders in Portugal.
The US said there was no comparison "in any way, shape or form".
Russia has long opposed US plans to build missile bases in European states once in the Soviet sphere of influence.
The Cuba crisis saw the US and Soviet Union go to the brink of nuclear war.
The 1962 stand-off was triggered when US spy planes discovered Soviet missile bases in Cuba, within striking distance of the American mainland.
Moscow's decision to deploy these weapons in Cuba was at the time seen as a response to the build-up of powerful US missiles in Europe.
Tensions were only defused when Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev agreed to dismantle the bases in return for guarantees that Washington would not attack communist Cuba.
    'Similar situation'
US President George W Bush has said there is a "real and urgent" need for a missile shield in Europe as a defence against possible attack by Iran and countries in the Middle East.
His defence secretary suggested this week that the development of the bases in countries such as the Czech Republic and Poland could be slowed while Russian concerns were addressed.
[Bush immediately asserted the need for missile defence in Europe.   He also attacked the US Congress for reducing funding to missile shield systems
The missile shield system would see among other threats to Russia, a radar site set up in the Czech Republic and a missile interceptor base in Poland.   Inserted by TheWE.biz]
President Putin said the threat to Russia's borders was akin to that faced by the US during the Cuban crisis.
"I would remind you how relations were developing in an analogous situation in the middle of the 1960s," he said.
"Analogous actions by the Soviet Union when it deployed rockets in Cuba provoked the Cuban missile crisis," he said.
"For us, technologically, the situation is very similar."
He added that current tensions had not reached the pitch attained during the Cuban crisis.
"It's not the same and we're not enemies.   I can call President Bush my friend.   But we've put forward solutions and we haven't yet received any answer."
US state department spokesman Sean McCormack said there were "clear historical differences" with the Cuban crisis.
"I don't think that they are historically analogous in any way, shape or form."

Norway says Russia has increased military flights in the Arctic
The UK's Royal Air Force has launched fighter jets to intercept eight Russian military planes flying in airspace patrolled by Nato, UK officials say.
Four RAF F3 Tornado aircraft were scrambled in response to the Russian action, the UK's defence ministry said.
The Russian planes - said to be long-range bombers - had earlier been followed by Norwegian F16 jets.
Russia recently revived a Cold War-era practice of flying bombers on long-range patrols.
A Norwegian officer, Lt Col John Inge Oegland, told the BBC the Russian Tupolev Tu-95 Bear bombers flew in international airspace from the Barents Sea to the Atlantic, before turning back.
Two Norwegian F-16s shadowed them on Thursday morning and another two went up later, he said.
There have been several similar incidents in recent months, Lt-Col Oegland added.
"Norway is following the increased Russian activity in the far north with interest," he told the BBC News website.
He said the Russian flights were not causing alarm in Norway.   "Our systems are adequate," he said, when asked whether Norway was bolstering its security in the area.

It's kind of a fun game
You see the aim of those inner forces who guide the Elite —
For them the real agenda is to kill you
    your children
    your grandchildren
It is to have fun watching your stupidity as you destroy your planet
But most haven't figured it out yet!
If you stop them with the nuclear weapons — then it's the 400+ MPH, KPH wind, the UVB, UVC, UVA rays due to loss of stratospheric ozone.
    It's the climate!
