May 1, 2002 — For years, we in America have supported Israel both financially and militarily because we perceived they were the innocent victims of hostile and violent neighbors.  The US media has, for years, provided extensive coverage of every incident involving Arab-against-Israeli violence.  From shootings, to car bombs to suicide bombers, we in America have seen it all. Or have we?
Why would rational human beings, given a choice, choose to attack their neighbors rather than live together in peace?  More pertinent, why would a rational human being choose to blow himself up rather than live?  The Israelis, the US media and our politicians would have us believe that the Arabs are simply not rational.  They routinely tell us that Arabs are "religious fanatics" who "hate freedom" or "hate our way of life" to quote George W. Bush.  These arguments are fallacious and intellectually bankrupt.
The reason for Arab against Israeli violence is simple: The Israelis have been systematically repressing and brutalizing hundreds of thousands of Arabs on a scale unparalleled since World War 2.   I have the proof.
Below are photographs of the victims of Israeli violence.  They depict brutal, violent death, horrific personal injury and devastation of property which is simply unfathomable.  ALL of it was perpetrated by Israelis against Arabs.  ALL of the victims are civilians.

As the mass started, the settlers, who organized an activity in the same site, started to provoke the worshippers and asked them to leave, eyewitnesses reported.
Settlers also threatened some of the local and international journalists who were present.
The Israeli soldiers who were there asked the internationals and the Palestinians to leave the park and did not attempt to stop the settlers when they started to force everyone to leave, the witnesses said.
The city council of Beit Sahour is planning to build a children hospital in the site in cooperation with intentional organization CURE.
However, the Israeli army imposed a military order on the designated area and the settlers started to frequently plan activities on the site and claimed that the land belongs to them and that they want to built a settlement on this land.
The worshippers raised their prayers for the sake of the children of Bethlehem in order to have the planned hospital built.
The settlers, who come from the neighboring illegal settlements of Har Homa and Efrat and others in the Bethlehem area, erased murals that some Palestinian and international activists had made a week ago and wrote some racist graffiti, calling for the death of Arabs.
There were around 200 settlers in the site, participating a lecture titled, "From Destruction to Diaspora."
Ush Ghrab, "Crow's Nest" in Arabic, was occupied by the Israeli army in 1967 and was used as a military base.
In 2006 the army abandoned the site and the city council in Beit Sahour rehabiliatated the site and turned part of it into a public park, and had a plan to build a hospital on the rest of it, in addition to some other facilities that would server the local community in Bethlehem.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has confirmed that the United States is planning a significant increase in military and government aid to Israel.
The package would amount to more than US $30bn increase.

Mya and I were actually living in Ein el-Hilweh.   They ran those bulldozers over everything including shelters which people were trying to take refuge.

The President of the United Nations General Assembly today called for international sanctions to be imposed on the state of Israel.

In last weekend’s edition of CounterPunch, Alexander Cockburn updates the ongoing persecution of Sami Al-Arian by federal prosecutors.
Al-Arian was a Florida university professor of computer science who was ensnared by the Bush Regime’s need to produce “terrorists” in order to keep Americans fearful and, thereby, amenable to the Bush Regime’s assault on US civil liberties.
The charges against Al-Arian were rejected by a jury, but the Bush Regime could not accept the obvious defeat.
If Al-Arian was not a terrorist, then other of the Bush Regime’s fabricated cases might fall apart, too.

In open view, the US Department of Justice (sic) proceeded to trash every known ethical rule of prosecution.

When it leaked out that the anthrax actually came from a US government lab, the Bush Regime tried to frame a US scientist, Steven J. Hatfill, but failed.
On June 28th, the Los Angeles Times reported that Hatfill, “The former Army scientist who was the prime suspect in the deadly 2001 anthrax mailings agreed Friday to take $5.82 million from the government to settle his claim that the Justice Department and the FBI invaded his privacy and ruined his career.”
Indeed, U.S. District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton allowed Hatfill’s attorneys two years to review all news reports and FBI evidence.
Judge Walton stated:
“There is not a scintilla of evidence that would indicate that Dr. Hatfill had anything to do with this.”

I went around, and with the permission of one of the head doctors at the hospital, photographed the wounded, because I know from being an American citizen that we don't see Palestinian dead and wounded, we only see the Israelis.
And so, I was taken to various wards in the hospital, where people were recovering, in particular, the intensive care unit, and photographed people with bullet wounds and with legs and arms bound up in plaster.
And in one case, a man was simply bleeding from his belly.   I mean it was just — it was really truly gruesome.
And one of the people had died on the operating table that morning and was taken to the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Hanoun, where they take the dead.
You walk through these hospitals on a very hot and very humid Gaza day, there is no air conditioning, there are no proper bed linens.
One father was shouting at one of the nurses that his son had been there a week and had not yet had changed bed linens, and the doctor telling me:
“Look, we don't have them.
We don't have basic supplies like that.
We don’t have dialysis machines for kidney patients.
We don’t have cancer drugs.
We can't do elective surgeries anymore, such as for hernias or anything like that, because the more crucial or urgent situations have to take precedence.”
They don’t have basic medicines for people with the flu and, you know, stomach upset.
It’s really a serious and deadly siege that’s been imposed on the Gaza Strip.
